Electronics can be hacked with Sound

A new focus on sound or acoutics being used to comprise computers and electric devices has been highlighted again. These types of hacks can take place with devices sending out sound often undetectable by human hearing spectrum, as a slow modem if a corresponding device is actively listening.

The United States Navy actually showed that it found this technology was being used at least as early as 2013 see our older post on this.

These type of hacks probably were not that big of a deal even 2 years ago. However as the products on the market have evolved with Amazon Echo and other Google connected Smart TV’S the ability to compromise something on an acoustic or sound based data hack is real. It could clearly even evolve into next generation Internet connected vehicles with the likes of the FCA and Jeep hack recently exposed.
